Sleep Apnea and Medical Weight Loss
Obesity can increase the likelihood and severity of obstructive sleep apnea, while fragmented sleep and daytime fatigue can make weight-management behaviors harder to sustain.

Two conditions, coordinated care
Weight loss can improve obstructive sleep apnea for some patients, but the amount of improvement varies and apnea may persist. PAP or another indicated treatment should not be stopped solely because weight changes or snoring improves.
Sleep diagnosis
Confirm severity and oxygen effects with appropriate testing.
Weight strategy
Nutrition, activity, behavior and medication may be considered based on medical fit.
Reassessment
Substantial weight change may justify repeat testing or treatment adjustment under clinical guidance.
W8MD connects the sleep service with medical weight management rather than treating either issue in isolation.
How W8MD can help
W8MD reviews symptoms, sleep schedule, medical conditions, medications, prior testing and treatment goals, then recommends the appropriate evaluation or follow-up. Sleep and weight-management services can be coordinated when clinically relevant.
