Who may be considered

Home testing is generally used for an uncomplicated adult with signs and symptoms suggesting an increased risk of moderate-to-severe obstructive sleep apnea. It is not a general screening gadget and it does not evaluate every sleep disorder.

When laboratory testing may be preferable

Significant cardiopulmonary disease, neuromuscular weakness, suspected hypoventilation, chronic opioid use, stroke history, severe insomnia, possible central sleep apnea or an inconclusive home test can change the testing approach.

Before

Receive device instructions and follow the usual sleep schedule unless told otherwise.

During

Sensors typically measure airflow, breathing effort, oxygen saturation and heart rate or pulse.

After

A qualified clinician interprets the recording in the context of symptoms and decides whether further testing is needed.

A negative or technically inadequate home study does not always exclude sleep apnea.

How W8MD can help
