Clinician screening for IV and IM therapy safety

Situations requiring careful review

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Kidney, liver or heart disease and fluid restrictions
  • G6PD deficiency, iron overload or kidney-stone history for certain vitamin C plans
  • Active infection, fever or skin infection at the injection site
  • Severe allergy or previous infusion reaction
  • Anticoagulant use or bleeding disorders for IM injections
  • Implanted access devices or difficult venous access
  • Active cancer treatment or complex specialist-managed illness

Safety and evidence

The list is not exhaustive. A person can be unsuitable even without a listed condition, and a different route or oral option may be safer. Delay elective wellness therapy when acutely ill unless the treating clinician advises otherwise.

How W8MD can help

W8MD reviews the reason for treatment, health history, medications, allergies, diet, relevant laboratory information, route, formulation, evidence, alternatives and cost. The plan is individualized rather than based on a universal “cocktail.”
