Orlistat Weight-Loss Treatment
Orlistat works in the gastrointestinal tract to reduce absorption of some dietary fat. It differs fundamentally from appetite suppressants and incretin medications.

Nutrition is central to tolerability
High-fat meals increase the likelihood of oily spotting, gas with discharge, urgency and loose stools. A nutritionally balanced, reduced-calorie eating plan with dietary fat distributed across meals is important.
Because absorption of fat-soluble vitamins can be reduced, the label recommends vitamin supplementation separated appropriately from the medication.

Safety and follow-up
Orlistat is not appropriate with chronic malabsorption syndrome or cholestasis. Review liver symptoms, kidney-stone or oxalate risk, gallbladder issues, transplant medicines, warfarin, thyroid medication, seizure medicines and other potential interactions. Seek care for concerning symptoms.
Follow-up evaluates response, tolerance, nutrition, hydration, bowel symptoms, blood pressure or laboratory information when relevant, activity, lean-mass goals and maintenance planning. Dose escalation is not automatic.
